I’m a novice cook.

Chawanmushi. I made this in tribute to my mom, who made me try it when I was in high school and I’ve loved it ever since. Also topped with uni (my mom’s favorite) and salmon roe. Recipe here.
Charcuterie and cheese board for Christmas day.
Octopus in garlic sauce toast.
Chickpea fritter, Cambozola, smoked oysters & dill.

Nicoise-y salad. Soft boiled eggs, tuna, mushrooms, olives, tomatoes, anchovies, micro-greens, potato salad with dill vinaigrette. First time I've actually been thrilled to make & eat a salad.
Potato latke with smoked salmon.
The 6th Chicken. Who knows why it took me six tries to make a perfect chicken with crispy skin. This recipe is part NY Times Cooking's, part Jenn & Melissa's, my best friends who approach roasting chicken with a nonchalance to which I aspire.
Savory Dutch Baby with prosciutto
Mizuna, purslane & sprouts salad. New favorite combination of greens. Plus one battered and sauteed in butter squash blossom.
Shrimp, fennel, and white bean stew.
Pork Tonkatsu over red cabbage and spinach salad.
Squash blossom quesadillas
Pumpkin flan
Beef bourginon, mashed potatoes
First & best pop-overs. Somehow the rest haven't been as puffy-golden.
Asparagus & mushroom hash, topped with bacon & egg. I never liked sweet breakfasts. Also, I missed a couple spots when I tried to plate.
Pan fried shrimps in anchovy butter. After I saw the No Reservations episode where Anthony Bourdain went to Prune, I had to make something like the prawns they served.
Lobster tail. So beautiful.
Lobster tail with blue cheese mashed potatoes. Poached in butter. This was my Thanksgiving dinner last year, since my husband had to work. One of the best meals I've made.
Summer soba sides experiment results. Soba is one of two meals I've seen my mother cook.
Roasted Enoki mushrooms. Summer soba sides experiment.
Roasted bok choy. Summer soba sides experiment II.
Squash Blossoms. My husband and I are addicted to these beauties.
Roasted whole cauliflower. Poached in a white wine & spices first.
Charred Tofu. Flat maki experiment: pea shoots, marinated & charred tofu, rice with wasabi edamame mayo on roasted seaweed stack.
Smoked Herring & grits. Experiment in savory breakfasts: blue cheese grits, poached egg, bacon, arugula & smoked herring. Not as good as I wanted it to be. I think I'll stick to bread instead of grits.
Quick Japanese pickles. I can't believe how easy these were to make. My mom and I used to order our own portion of them at restaurants. I should've tried making them earlier.
